The most time efficient and easiest way to grab a bite on campus

For this project the aim was the help students be more time efficient at school. While talking to students, I found most students waste a lot of time trying to buy food while on campus. A high majority of students only eat from campus restaurants and vending machines and the process to obtain food from these places is messy and time consuming. The app aims to help students pre-order meals on campus, selecting restaurants and vendors based on their distance from their next class and duration of time it would take the food to be ready.

Overview

A solution for time starved students. This app aims to solve the problem of limited time and food options students face while trying to obtain a meal between classes. Date collected from primary user surveys and secondary research shows an average of 30 minutes allotted for students to have meals while on campus. Some students spend up to 20 min waiting for food purchases. Current options on campus are overpriced, low quality, and few choices. Campus bites aims to connect students with local vendors closest to their current Campus Building. By allowing pre-selected time slots for delivery or pick-up and electronic payment, time constraints are reduced allowing students to have more time to enjoy quality meals.

How Much Do College Students Spend on Food?

College students spent a total of $39.6 billion on food alone in 2020. Food costs range from groceries and coffee to eating out. There are several reasons why college students spend so much on food.

The rise of social media and the need to purchase things for status are a couple factors that encourage students to splurge on Instagram-worthy food when they really shouldn’t. Other reasons include using food as an excuse to socialize or to take breaks from studying.

  • College students spent $39.6 billion on food alone in 2020.

  • For back-to-school shopping among college students, individual students expected to spend $111.32 on food items in 2020.
